Well my first year at KCHS has come to a close. It’s been a very nice change. To start simply not having a commute was great and gave Megan and me much more time. However, the benefits have been much more than that. Throughout the year I was greeted many times by friendly, nice, and caring parents welcoming me to the school and thanking me for teaching there. As a school we have tons of parental support and that is great. I also had the opportunity to work with some great educators and learn some new things from them. Everyone on the staff has been very welcoming and helpful during my first year. I was also able to attend more sports and activities this year than I have in the past. This is mostly because of not having to commute but it has been very fun to go and support my students. I didn’t make it to everything I wanted to so hopefully I can fix that next year. One reason I didn’t make it to as many spring activities was that I had the opportunity to coach our shooting team. It was a lot of fun to help out with the team and experience a slightly different season. In Lincoln I only shot trap but here they shoot trap, skeet, and sporting clays. It was interesting to see which events people did well on and which they struggled at. Overall it was a great season. This summer will be nice since I will easily be able to get back to my room to prepare for next year. Also I’ll have to take care of my new pets, a tank of cichlids that were donated to me. One last item of note, Megan started as one of the secretaries at the end of this year. That will put us on the same schedule and give her weekends off. I believe she is enjoying it so far. Megan and I are off to Denver today to watch the Rockies play the Cardinals!
