the week

I’ll start by saying my father died Wednesday November 1st early in the morning. It has been a challenging couple of weeks but I got to spend a lot of time with him during that time. He has been fighting cancer for the last 4 and a half years and was doing well overall. While his strength has been leaving him over the last few years he was able to do some awesome things, like take trips overseas, go on hunting and fishing trips with me, and spend lots of time with his family. Over the last few month dad started having more problems, mostly in the form of bowel obstructions. He spent that time in and out of the hospital both in Lincoln and in Omaha. Megan and I went back to see him many times, including Monday and Tuesday. It has meant that I have missed some school but it was important to see him during this time. I had the pleasure of spending his last two days with him and I will always cherish that. On Monday he decided he was done struggling with the treatments and decided he wanted to come back to Lincoln and go into hospice. He arranged everything and we got him back to Lincoln Tuesday night. That night some of his grandchildren came over in their Halloween costumes to say hi. Megan and I traveled back to Kearney that night and got a call from mom the next morning saying he had passed. We squared away some things in Kearney and were back in Lincoln by noon. I cannot thank everyone enough for the prayers and support they have given us over this time. My school and students have been great to work with and our family and friends have really helped out. Dad had a lot of visitors over the last couple of weeks and we could really tell he was very loved. He has taught me so much and I will always miss him.

eternal rest grant onto him, O Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon him. And may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
